Overview

The drying process is complex combination of heat and mass transfer processes of different rates requiring complex models for an accurate description. Existing drying models in commercial solvers like ANSYS Fluent and COMSOL, typically employ simplistic drying models. Further, these models only consider initial stages of drying and do not account for processes occurring once the solute concentration reaches the material packing factor. All these factors lead to poor prediction of the final droplet size and morphology. This proposal aims to develop an improved physics-based drying model that can be used to predict droplet characteristics for a given spray drying condition. The developed model will be simple and fast and can be integrated with ANSYS Fluent or COMSOL though user defined functions for easy application in industry.
