CFD Simulation of the Onset of Ultrasonic Atomization and Resultant Droplet Size > <

Overview

The objectives of this project are the following:

Fundamentally understand the physics behind ultrasonic atomization, (direct-contact and non-contact mechanisms).
CFD modeling of the two-phase flow transport under various conditions (amplitude, liquid height, surface tension, viscosity, density, and frequency).
Determine onset amplitude (i.e. electrical power) for ultrasonic atomization under various conditions.
Develop a correlation for predicting the droplet size as a function of non-dimensional numbers.
Conduct limited experimental validation tests.
