Overview

This collaborative team proposes a framework that maximizes energy efficiency while guaranteeing meeting constraints on food quality. Each drying technology performs with different efficiencies in different settings. Depending on the operating conditions, some technologies may be more favorable than others. By combining multiple processes, it is possible to take advantage of all available technologies and compensate for their inefficiencies. This proposal will obtain: (a) the sequence in which different drying techniques should be used, and (b) the operating parameters of each technology to maximize the performance of the multi-stage drying system for a given product. Dividing the drying/baking/heating process into sub-processes that use different methods, and operating conditions will help alleviate their individual limitations.
